COMPANY HISTORY

OUR HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

About Us

W.B. Wells Co. was established in 1970 and focused on supplying high-quality instrumentation to the process industries and other industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. Products include gas and liquid analyzers, sample conditioning systems, fire and gas detection systems, flame safeguard systems, continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS), continuous opacity monitoring systems (COMS), and continuous process monitoring systems (CPMS). Our long-term success is attributed to our in-depth knowledge of our products and their intended applications. Using this knowledge, we avoid the mistakes and misapplication of products into installations doomed to failure. While many instrumentation suppliers avoid complex analytical instruments, we enjoy the challenge and have built our reputation on supplying reliable analyzer solutions.

Our History

Beginning with his passion for process control instrumentation and industrial processes, William (Bill) Wells held various sales and sales management positions with several major instrumentation companies, including Honeywell, Toledo Scale, and Motorola Instruments & Controls. His career in electronics and instrumentation began when he enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from high school in Pottsville, PA. He obtained training in electronics while serving in the US Navy during WWII. After the war ended, he received an Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State University. Following graduation, he was hired by the Brown Instrument Division of Honeywell in Philadelphia. In 1970, after working for Honeywell for over 15 years and shorter terms at Toledo Scale and Motorola, he decided to start the W.B. Wells Co. Initially, the company offered a broad range of analytical instruments, weigh feeders and belt scales, material handling equipment, and process instruments for the measurement of temperature, pressure, level, and flow.

In 1985, Bill was joined by his son David, who had followed his father’s footsteps in obtaining an Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State University. David had a similar passion for process instruments, analyzers, and industrial processes. As the company grew, the need to offer field service became apparent, and a service department was formed in 2003. The company continues to grow and strives to maintain its leadership position in the supply and service of analytical instruments and systems.
